Kapaa, HI – Elderly Motorcyclist Injured After Being Hit By Car Kawaihau Rd

October 24, 2022

Kapaa, HI (October 24, 2022) – A 74-year-old motorcyclist sustained critical injuries on Saturday, October 22nd during an accident in the Kapaa area of Kauai.

Kauai police responded to the scene after a 17-year-old girl driving a sedan eastbound on Kawaihau Road attempted to make a lefthand turn into a local convenience store and struck the rider.

Police have ruled out speed as a factor in the incident. Toxicology reports are pending.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Motorcycle Collisions in Hawaii

Kauai, HI - Elderly Motorcyclist Critical After Crash on Kawaihau Rd

Although there is no one common kind of motorcycle accident, the one feature they all share is that the crashes are almost always violent and the injuries catastrophic. More than 80% of motorcycle accidents nationwide result in injury or death to the rider.

Even when motorcycle riders obey all safety protocols laid out by the state, like wearing an approved helmet and appropriate protective gear, they have little to no defense when compared to the driver of the vehicle that hit them. For this reason, motorcyclists are far more vulnerable to being seriously injured or killed during a collision with another vehicle.

In addition to the danger of being hit by another driver, riders also have to contend with everyday road hazards such as slick roadways, cracks, and potholes.

According to data released by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration in 2017, roughly 25 motorcyclists are killed each year in Hawaii crashes, and hundreds more are left badly injured.

Even if the driver liable for the accident offers you what sounds like a liberal settlement, you should never accept it without having an experienced lawyer review the facts of your case.

Our Kapaa motorcycle accident lawyers can effectively calculate whether or not the settlement amount is really as generous as it seems and, if it isn’t, press them for more. If the negligent driver still refuses to pay you what you deserve, we will take your case to trial.

If you or a member of your family was injured or killed in a motorcycle crash caused by someone else’s negligence, you could be eligible for compensation for your hospital bills, lost earnings, pain, suffering, and other damages. You need assertive legal representation and a lawyer who can help you exercise your rights.
