Kailua, HI – Patient Dead, Medic Critical After Ambulance Explodes Outside Adventist Health Castle Hospital

Kailua, HI (August 24, 2022) – A paramedic was critically injured and a patient was killed on Wednesday, August 24th when an ambulance exploded outside Adventist Health Castle hospital in Kailua.

An EMT that was in the front seat of the ambulance was also injured in the blaze and is currently in stable condition.

According to the City Emergency Services Director, the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire remains undetermined. 

The fatal patient was in the rear of the ambulance along with an eight-year veteran paramedic, who has since been transferred to Straub Medical Center. 

The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating the explosion.
