Kailua, HI – Bicyclist Killed in Traffic Accident on Mokapu Saddle Rd near Kapaa Quarry Rd

Kailua, HI (February 1, 2023) – A bicyclist lost his life after involvement in a traffic accident in Kailua on Tuesday night, January 31. The incident was reported to police in the area at approximately 5:30 p.m. 

Sources say the crash happened in the area of Mokapu Saddle Road and Kapaa Quarry Road. Police in Honolulu said a Chevrolet Flatbed truck driven by a 31-year-old male was headed north on Mokapu Saddle Road when he tried to turn right onto Kapaa Quarry Road. 

While attempting to turn right, a bicyclist crashed into the back of his truck. Police said the bicyclist was thrown onto the roadway due to the impact. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he later passed away. 

Kapaa Quarry Road was shut down between Mokapu and Kalanianaole Highway due to the crash. The truck driver sustained no injuries in the collision. 

Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
