Honolulu, HI – Woman Hospitalized After Head-On Crash at Wilder Ave and Makiki St
October 13, 2022
Honolulu, HI (October 13, 2022) – A woman is hospitalized with critical injuries after she was involved in a head-on crash in Honolulu on Wednesday, October 12th near Makiki District Park.
Police reports show that the collision took place at about 7:45 p.m. when a 31-year-old female driver was riding eastbound along Wilder Avenue just as a 20-year-old female riding a moped was riding westbound. The automobile crashed into the moped as the driver attempted to make a lefthand turn onto Makiki Street.
The impact threw the moped rider to the ground where she sustained critical injuries.
Officers said alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Motorcycle Collisions in Hawaii
Although there is no one common kind of motorcycle accident, the one feature they all share is that the crashes are almost always violent and the injuries catastrophic. More than 80% of motorcycle accidents nationwide result in injury or death to the rider.
According to data released by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration in 2017, roughly 25 motorcyclists are killed each year in Hawaii crashes, and hundreds more are left badly injured.
In addition to the danger of being hit by another driver, riders also have to contend with everyday road hazards such as slick roadways, cracks, and potholes.
Even when motorcycle riders obey all safety protocols laid out by the state, like wearing an approved helmet and appropriate protective gear, they have little to no defense when compared to the driver of the vehicle that hit them. For this reason, motorcyclists are far more vulnerable to being seriously injured or killed during a collision with another vehicle.
Even if the driver liable for the accident offers you what sounds like a liberal settlement, you should never accept it without having an experienced lawyer review the facts of your case.
Our Honolulu motorcycle accident lawyers can effectively calculate whether or not the settlement amount is really as generous as it seems, and lean on them for more if it isn’t. If the negligent driver still refuses to pay you what you deserve, we will take your case to trial.
