Honolulu, HI – Woman Dies, Man Hurt in Motorcycle Crash on Kam Hwy at Makua Village
January 3, 2025
Honolulu, HI (January 3, 2025) – The Honolulu Police Department reported the first traffic fatality of the new year on Thursday, January 2.
Police say that a 21-year-old woman is dead following a crash involving an SUV and motorcycle in the Windward Oahu area on Thursday evening. The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Makua Village Road.
According to HPD, a 22-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway with his 21-year-old female passenger when they were involved in a crash with the SUV, which was turning left onto the highway. The man and woman on the motorcycle were taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, but the woman’s health deteriorated, and she later died from her injuries. The driver and passenger in the vehicle were not injured and remained at the scene.
Investigators said the motorcyclist and his passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, and they don’t believe speed, drugs, or alcohol are contributing factors. However, an investigation is still ongoing, and no further details were released.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased woman’s family. Our thoughts are also with the injured man in hopes of his full recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in Hawaii
Unfortunately, motorcyclists are nearly entirely unprotected and exposed in the event of an accident with another vehicle (typically a car), which makes motorcycle riding extremely dangerous. The repercussions of a collision between a car and a motorcycle can be catastrophic for all riders.
