Honolulu, HI – Two-Vehicle Collision w/Injuries on Wilikina Dr at Kaukonahua Rd

September 3, 2024

Honolulu, HI (September 3, 2024) – The Honolulu Fire Department rescued one person who was trapped in a car following a crash in Wahiawa on Sunday night.

Officials said the crash happened just before 8:10 p.m. near Wilikina Drive and Kaukonahua Road. Crews responded to a two-vehicle collision with one person trapped in their car. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate that person. Care was then transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services. That said, there’s been no word on their condition.

Officials said two other people involved in the crash refused medical treatment or transport from the site, though their current conditions are also unclear. However, no further details were released in the interim, and an investigation is still ongoing. Witnesses were asked to contact the HPD.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Honolulu

Motor vehicle accidents involving multiple drivers are a major issue in the United States and throughout the state of Hawaii. In fact, close to 10,000 car crashes are reported annually in Hawaii, and these incidents cause thousands of people to sustain injuries. Furthermore, every year, more than six million car wrecks are reported nationwide, most of which are caused by driver negligence.

Driver negligence can be displayed in countless ways. However, the most common are speeding, intoxication, distraction, and fatigue. Drivers who pay attention to their phones, the radio, other people in their cars, and anything other than the roadway while operating their motor vehicles put themselves and everyone else at risk for serious injuries or even fatalities. For example, in one recent year, over 11,000 people were killed due to auto accidents caused by speeding. Speeding is one of the most dangerous types of driver negligence because it leaves drivers no time to stop in case of an accident and increases the dangers and risk of catastrophic injuries in the case of a crash.
