February 6, 2023

Honolulu, HI (January 6, 2023) – Police in Honolulu say that two men lost their lives, and one person was hurt in a single-car accident on Sunday morning, February 5. Police say they responded to the scene of the accident at around 3:30 a.m.

The wreck occurred on Queen Kaahumanu Highway when a gray 2014 Jeep Cherokee carrying three men was headed north. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the road and struck a large metal traffic light. Police say the car then caught fire, trapping two men inside.

The two men were taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where they both were pronounced deceased at around 8:00 a.m. Police report the third person in the vehicle, identified as a man from Honokaa, age 27, was able to escape the burning vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment. He is currently in stable condition.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash, which they believe involved speed and impairment.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.

Hawaii Car Accidents

Honolulu, HI - Two Killed, One Hurt in Auto Accident on Queen Kaahumanu HwyAuto accidents are among the top ten reasons people lose their lives in the United States. In 2021, over 40,000 lives were cut short in auto collisions in the US. This is a 10% rise from 2020 and, according to the National Highway Traffic Association, the largest yearly increase ever recorded. Because so many people drive on a daily basis, we tend to underestimate the truth of the dangers we face out on the road.

In Hawaii, thousands of people are hurt badly enough to seek medical attention every year due to auto accidents. Additionally, hundreds of people end up losing their lives due to these collisions. No one ever wants to sustain a serious injury in a crash, however, it happens all the time. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that every 60 seconds in the United States, approximately 13 car accidents occur. Roughly 27% of all accidents result in injuries, which is equal to three injury crashes per minute.

According to estimates made by car insurance companies, the odds of you becoming involved in a car crash during a 1,000-mile trip are about 1 in 366. The average driver will file an insurance claim for a car accident approximately once every 20 years. When you or someone you love are injured in an accident with another person, it’s important to determine who caused the crash. If you figure out that it was the other party, they need to be held accountable.

If the worst has happened, and you have lost a loved one in a negligently caused accident, a wrongful death lawyer in Honolulu can help you hold negligent drivers responsible.
