Honolulu, HI (October 29, 2024) – According to officials from the Honolulu Police Department, a 76-year-old woman critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday has succumbed to her injuries and died, Honolulu police said on Monday.
She has been identified as Teresita Gaoiran. The crash happened around 7:40 a.m. Sunday in the area of Farrington Highway and Pahu Street. Per the HPD, a vehicle driven by a 55-year-old man was heading eastbound on Farrington Highway and was making a right turn on Pahu Street when it struck the woman, who was walking across the street.
Police said the driver initially stopped and later fled the scene without rendering aid. The driver was later arrested for a collision involving death or serious bodily injury and driving without a license. Officials stated that speed, alcohol, and narcotics do not appear to have been factors in this collision at this time, but an investigation is ongoing.
