Honolulu, HI – One Killed in Auto Accident on Kamehameha Hwy near Ashley Rd

Honolulu, HI (December 9, 2022) – At least one person has died after a crash on Oahu’s North Shore. The incident occurred late on the night of December 8. 

Officials reported the crash happened on the Kamehameha Highway near Ashley Road in the Haleiwa area around 11:20 p.m. Police stated a 19-year-old driver was traveling west on the highway when he crossed the center line and drove into oncoming traffic, colliding with another vehicle. 

First responders said a 65-year-old man in the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A 55-year-old woman who was a passenger in that vehicle was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A 19-year-old man who was driving the vehicle that crossed the center line was also hospitalized in serious condition. 

The teenager was arrested for second-degree negligent homicide and first-degree negligent injury. Investigators reported that it appears speed may have been a contributing factor in this crash.
