Hawaii Motorcycle Accidents

Honolulu, HI - Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Crash on Kapiolani BlvdInformation provided by the Hawaii Department of Transportation shows that there were over 1,500 motorcycle collisions in 2020. These wrecks caused over 1,400 injuries and 26 fatalities. Most of the people involved in these accidents were aged 20 to 29. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly 5,000 people lose their lives per year in motorcycle accidents throughout the United States. Motorcyclists make up a small percentage of registered drivers in the US, however, they are much more likely to be involved in a fatal accident than those in passenger vehicles. More than half the time, motorcyclists sustain severe or fatal injuries when they become involved in traffic accidents.

Failing to yield the right of way was the most common contributing factor to the majority of these motorcycle collisions, followed by speeding and distraction. Alarmingly, driver negligence is the main contributing factor in the majority of auto accidents throughout the United States. Over 90% of reported traffic accidents happen because of negligent drivers. This is alarming when we consider how many accidents actually happen in the United States. Every year, over 6 million crashes are reported. This is more than 17,000 per day.
