Honolulu, HI – Man Killed, Woman Hurt in Motorcycle Collision on Pali Hwy
March 2, 2025
Honolulu, HI (March 2, 2025) – A man died after a crash on Pali Highway on Sunday, March 2, that closed the Kaneohe-bound lanes.
HPD said that the accident happened just before 9:00 a.m., after a 56-year-old motorcyclist traveling northbound on the Pali Highway collided with a 73-year-old woman traveling southbound on the highway who was attempting to make a left turn into Saint Stephen Diocesan Center.
Authorities said that the motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The woman was also taken to an area hospital in serious condition, officials added.
At this time, Honolulu police have not reported any other injuries or the possible causes or factors of the accident. However, HPD officers asked witnesses to get in touch as they launched an inquiry into the cause of the accident.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man’s family members. Our thoughts are also with the injured in hopes of their full recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in Hawaii
Motorcyclists are rendered entirely unprotected and exposed in the event of an accident with another vehicle (typically a car), which renders motorcycle riding extremely hazardous. The repercussions of a low-speed, relatively insignificant collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle can be catastrophic for all riders. Adding insult to injury, most of the common causes of these incidents can be traced back to driver negligence, including but not limited to:
- Impairment: Drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol are most likely to lose control of their vehicles. These drivers may not be able to recognize colors or traffic control devices. They may be unable to maintain safe control of their vehicle and experience impaired judgment.
- Driver distraction: There are so many accidents that take place on our roadways as a result of drivers simply not paying attention to the road ahead. Common distractions that lead to accidents in our state include cell phones, food, and even talking to passengers.
- Aggressive driving: When drivers become aggressive while behind the wheel, they are likely to cause accidents that severely harm others. We see many accidents take place as a result of drivers who zip between lanes of travel, tailgate other vehicles, and are reckless while operating their cars.
