Honolulu, HI – Man Identified in Fatal Bicycle Crash on Kuhio Hwy

Honolulu, HI (December 31, 2024) – According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, a bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle on Kauai earlier this week has died.

Police identified him as Aaron Dorney-Sundquist, 44, of Kapaa. Last Wednesday, at around 6:50 p.m., police said Dorney-Sundquist was crossing Kuhio Highway in a marked crosswalk at the Kawaihau Road intersection when he was hit by a 2008 Toyota sedan traveling northbound.

Dorney-Sundquist was taken to Wilcox Medical Center and later airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he died over the weekend. No further details on the collision were available, but officers are continuing to investigate the incident. The sedan driver was not hurt; Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions as police investigated the scene. Witnesses were asked to come forward with additional information as soon as possible.
