Honolulu, HI – Man Dead in Motorcycle Collision on Kam Hwy at Ke Nui Rd

November 3, 2024

Honolulu, HI (November 3, 2024) – The Honolulu Police Department said Honolulu EMS treated a motorcyclist who suffered critical injuries and the driver of a vehicle who crashed around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, and have now released further details related to the accident.

Police said a 26-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Hwy when he was involved in a collision with a 27-year-old motorist making a left turn from Kamehameha Hwy onto Ke Nui Road. He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injures.

Meanwhile, the motorist sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. The investigation remains active and ongoing; however, witnesses were asked to come forward as soon as possible.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man’s family. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Hawaii

Unfortunately, motorcyclists are nearly entirely unprotected and exposed in the event of an accident with another vehicle (typically a car), which makes motorcycle riding extremely dangerous. The repercussions of a collision between a car and a motorcycle can be catastrophic for all riders. Adding insult to injury, most of the common causes of these incidents can be traced back to driver negligence, including but not limited to:

  • Impairment: Drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol are most likely to lose control of their vehicles. These drivers may not be able to recognize colors or traffic control devices. They may be unable to maintain safe vehicle control and experience impaired judgment.
  • Driver distraction: Many accidents occur on our roadways because drivers simply are not paying attention to the road ahead. Common distractions that lead to accidents in our state include cell phones, food, and even talking to passengers.
  • Aggressive driving: When drivers become aggressive while behind the wheel, they are likely to cause accidents that harm others. Many accidents occur because drivers zip between lanes of travel, tailgate other vehicles, or are reckless while operating their cars.
