Honolulu, HI – Jessica Sprinkle Identified in Deadly Collision at Hwys 190 & 191

October 20, 2024

Honolulu, HI (October 20, 2024) – Officials in Honolulu say that a 17-year-old girl is dead, and three other teen girls were seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash on October 17 in Waikōloa between a sedan and semi, and police have since identified the victim.

Hawai‘i Island police identified the teen driver killed as 17-year-old Jessica Ann Sprinkle of Waikōloa. Hawai‘i Police Department investigators responded at about 8:00 a.m. Thursday to a crash at the intersection of Māmalahoa Highway (Highway 190) and Waikōloa Road (Highway 191).

Investigators determined a silver 2022 Chevrolet Spark sedan was turning left onto Māmalahoa Highway from Waikōloa Road when it was broadsided by a white 2018 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer transporting 5,000 gallons of water that was heading south on Waikōloa Road. Honolulu police have not released any details about pending citations or charges, and the other victims’ conditions are unknown, but an investigation remains active and ongoing.

Our deepest condolences are extended to Jessica Ann Sprinkle’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.

Fatal Vehicle Accidents in Hawaii

There are approximately one million registered vehicles in Hawaii, and each year, approximately 10,000 crashes resulting in serious injuries are reported in the Aloha State. Sadly, the number of traffic-related fatalities has also been on the rise in recent years. The causes of these individual accidents will be carefully investigated by authorities. However, we often see that negligent drivers are responsible for the most serious Hawaii car accidents.

Unfortunately, according to statistics, the increasing number of automobile collisions in the United States is caused by motorist negligence. Drunk driving, speeding, driver preoccupation, and driver fatigue are the four primary causes of driver negligence in Hawaii and nationwide. In the United States, nine out of ten automobile collisions are caused by careless drivers. These facts point to the likelihood that a negligent driver caused your accident.

Major collisions can affect innocent victims in a matter of seconds. If you or a family member have been impacted by a serious car accident in Hawaii, you will need skilled and experienced legal representation. While Hawaii law provides accident victims and their loved ones with certain rights, these rights must be properly exercised. Without an attorney by your side, you may be costing yourself thousands of dollars in valuable compensation.

You are entitled to complete compensation for any losses incurred due to your accident. With the assistance of a personal injury attorney in Hawaii, you will receive the maximum compensation available for your injuries and losses, even if the insurance company attempts to convince you to settle for less than you deserve.
