Honolulu, HI – Elderly Woman & Man Killed in House Fire on Spencer St in Makiki

February 24, 2023

Honolulu, HI (February 24, 2023) – An elderly man and woman were killed in a Thursday afternoon fire in Honolulu. The incident was reported to the police shortly before 1:00 p.m.

Ten units with approximately 40 firefighters were sent to the scene on Spencer Street in order to render aid and investigate the cause of the fire. When crews arrived, flames had burned through the roof of the home.

While firefighters searched for building occupants in the two-story house, they also doused the flames. Two senior citizens reportedly lost their lives in the flames. The man was found just outside the house under an exterior staircase while the woman was on the floor of a bedroom on the ground floor.

A third person who resides at the house wasn’t home at the time of the fire. Emergency Medical Services, Honolulu police, and the Hawaiian Electric Company all responded to the crash scene.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victims.

Hawaii Structure Fires

House fires occur frequently in the United States. The National Fire Protection Association reports that more than 350,000 house fires take place each year throughout the country. Approximately 2,600 people are killed per year in these incidents. These fires can happen for numerous reasons, however, cooking fires most often end up causing damage.

Severe burn treatment is almost always a serious financial issue for patients. The average cost that stems from medical bills for someone who was just moderately injured in a fire is somewhere around $200,000.

Additionally, this total does not include the many other financial problems victims may end up facing, including reduced earning capacity, lost wages, numerous surgeries for scarring, and the many support services utilized to assist them in coping with the emotional trauma that may have stemmed from the event. Fires are some of the most traumatic events people can go through.

Gathering full and fair financial compensation for these damages, along with pain, suffering, and more may be a difficult task, which is why working with an attorney can prove to be very helpful to you during this trying time. An attorney will thoroughly investigate your claim and help you to collect the maximum compensation available for your injuries and losses.
