Hawaii Pedestrian Crashes
Pedestrian crashes may occur for an array of different reasons. However, over half the time, drivers are responsible for driving while distracted, intoxicated, or demonstrating another act of negligence while behind the wheel. Throughout the United States, driver distraction is on the rise. Each year, over 400,000 accidents are caused by distracted drivers in the United States. Pedestrians are involved in a percentage of these collisions. Many of them sustain serious or even fatal injuries. Also in the past ten years, pedestrian collisions have risen by over 50% across the country. This is most likely due to the increased number of negligent drivers present on our roadways.
Speeding or intoxicated drivers who hit pedestrians in or near the roadway will be held legally responsible for the damages caused by the crash. Pedestrians are often able to collect financial compensation for vehicle repairs, medical care, lost wages, and more when they sustain injuries due to the actions of negligent drivers.
