July 18, 2022

Aiea, HI (July 18, 2022) – Honolulu police, and first response teams were on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Monday, July 18th in Aiea.

The accident took place at about 12:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate H1 just after the junction connecting it to Interstate H3.

The Freeway Service Patrol was also requested in the area to assist with lane closures after an unusual amount of road debris caused a series of tire blowouts which lead to collisions and injuries for those involved.

EMTs also responded in order to provide pre-hospital emergency aid to several victims.

This accident remains under police investigation at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accidents in Hawaii

Aiea, HI - Road Debris and Flat Tires Lead to Injury-Causing Accident on I-H1 at I-H3

Hawaii took extreme measures in 2012 to decrease the number of serious injuries and fatalities caused by intoxicated drivers due to the fact that the state’s number of arrests for drunk driving almost doubled between 2008 and 2011.

The state formed an enforcement program called 52/12 wherein one sobriety checkpoint is set up in a random location once a week all year long. The program is designed to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roadway and, by extension, reduce alcohol-related accidents. After the program was executed, 450 arrests for driving under the influence were made at a total of 600 checkpoints throughout the state.

These numbers make it clear that the program is working as fatal drunk driving accidents fell by 20%

In spite of their best efforts, however, car accidents continue to happen every day and have long-term consequences for injured victims and their families.
