2 Hospitalized After Fire on Nanakuli Beach in Nanakuli, HI

September 3, 2026

Nanakuli, HI (September 3, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized after a fire involving a tent at Black Rocks Beach in Nanakuli early Wednesday, September 2.

According to the Honolulu Fire Department, crews were called to the beach at about 2:00 a.m. for a small rubbish fire involving a tent. Two people were trapped inside, and firefighters worked to remove them.

Paramedics treated a woman in her 60s for severe burns over much of her body. She was taken to an emergency room in critical condition.

A 65-year-old man was treated for serious burns to his feet and minor burns to other parts of his body. He was transported to a hospital in serious condition.

The Honolulu Fire Department said the fire was fully extinguished by 2:45 a.m.

We hope both injured people receive the care and support they need to recover.

Can I Recover Compensation for Burn Injuries in Nanakuli, HI?

Yes. If another person or entity was responsible for the fire, you may be able to recover compensation for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and other losses caused by your burn injuries.

When the cause of a fire is not immediately clear, determining how it started becomes an important part of the claim. Investigators may look at where the fire began, what was nearby, and whether anyone’s actions contributed to it.

If more than one party may be responsible, the claim can become more complicated. Responsibility may depend on who created a dangerous condition, who controlled the property, or whether someone failed to address a known hazard.

After a serious burn injury, an insurer may ask for a statement or other information before deciding whether to accept responsibility. You should understand what is being requested before signing a release or agreeing to a settlement that could end your claim.

Because the origin of the fire may be disputed, photographs, videos, emergency reports, and other available information can help establish what happened. These materials may also help identify who had responsibility for the circumstances that led to the fire.

Under Hawaii’s comparative negligence rule, you may still recover compensation if you share some responsibility for what happened. However, the amount you receive may be reduced based on your percentage of fault.

If questions arise about who was responsible for the fire, a Nanakuli personal injury lawyer can review how it started and determine which parties may be legally responsible. An attorney can also communicate with insurers on your behalf while you focus on recovery.
